Six Quirky Things About Me

LJ tagged me for this meme a long time ago. Then she quit blogging. I hope it's not my fault! I hope she will start blogging again soon!

So, without further ado:

1. I like kosher dill pickles. This goes back to high school, when I used to frequent (or should I say nosh at) a local restaurant here called The Lincoln Del. Also learned to love pastrami sandwiches there. Later on, I discovered: it was the garlic.

2. I was bald until I was about two years old. I think it was a Scandinavian thing. I have a pretty good head of hair now.

3. I can't whistle, but I know a lot of songs, including Irving Berlin's "We're Having A Heat Wave/A Tropical Heat Wave." I've been humming that a lot lately (it's up above zero today).

4. When I took typing in high school, I started to "pretend type" what people were saying, moving my fingers on desks, tabletops, and other surfaces while people talked. Please, somebody else, tell me you did this.

5. I have "hyperextended" elbows (I believe that's what it's called). It's a little like being double-jointed, but not exactly.

6. Sometimes I forget to wear my gloves. But not last Tuesday.

I think everybody has done this quirky meme, but if not, please feel free to tell me and go right ahead!

I absolutely relate to the "typing what I'm hearing" mannerism!

Diane, this was fun to read. I can't whistle either. Oh, well.

I can't whistle, either. I tried and tried to learn, and never could.

I have elbows that hyper extend, too. A while back, I went in for an MRI on my shoulder and while I was waiting for the doc, sitting on the edge of the bench/table/bed thing with my hands beside me, arms straight, he walked in. The first thing he said was, "Oh, you have double jointed elbows!" That was the first time I'd heard that.

Very fun list!

Hyperextended elbows means you would be have trouble carrying many trays as a waitress without dropping them. That and you can point at more things at one time.

This is fun!

I have those crazy elbows, too. (and I can bend my fingers backward.) Try this if you haven't already -- Hold your arms out to the side with palms facing up, elbows hyper-extended. Now, turn your palms toward the floor without moving the rest of your arm. It looks like your arms have been put together all wrong. I guarantee the next eight-year-old boy you meet will think you are the coolest person ever!

Can't whistle either.

Whoa! I have those elbows too AND I used to "air" type when I was in high school!

I'm the odd one out on this. I have nothing in common with you or all the other non-whistlers. I can whistle two ways: Through my lips AND through my teeth. I don't want to brag but it's one of the few things I excel at. Now, if I could just wiggle my ears...

someone discovered the elbow thing when they saw a picture of me (and a whole bunch of people) raising our hands, and said that my elbow was hyperextended. who knew?

Oh the typing thing.

You had to bring that up, didn't you?

(tee hee!)

I can't whistle either, but the elbow thing ... well, that's just weird.

Hey, thanks for playing along, Diane. And, no you silly guilty Lutheran, it wasn't your fault. I have a couple of posts rolling about in my head, so maybe I'll actually blog again one of these days.

well, I can't whistle either. I have tried to learn how...but. I can't.

Fun play....

I'm so happy that some people said they type what they hear. I not only don't do that, but I didn't know anyone who did that until today.

I used to pretend type and still do under duress. It makes me slow down to 70 wpm so that I don't blurt out the first thing my mind thinks!
