Reader Poll

Just yesterday I got this award from Ruth over at Ruth's Visions and Revisions. I will have to say that I am flattered and flustered. I'm not so sure that I'm as courageous as the award seems to imply. I do think that I try a little too hard sometimes to be nice, and senstive to everyone's feelings. However, I do think that sometimes pastors are called to "Kick XXX." I'm just not sure if we can SAY it.

Ruth seems to feel similarly. In telling me about the award, Ruth seemed to wonder whether, as a clergyperson, I would be able to post this on my blog.

So, dear readers, what do you think? Is this award appropriate for a pastor?

If there are any congregation members out there, I would be particularly interested in your point of view.

But of course, everyone is welcome.

In the meantime, I'm pondering my next post. Hmmmm.

oh my, i guess i'm too laid back. i use that expression all the time, and did so even in front of parishioners, i think. o.k., maybe kick butt was said more often... but... i think you do kick a**, diane. i'm glad you got the award. censored to honor your sensitivity!

Since I blog semi-anonymously and I doubt that any of my current parishioners have found me...I could play (although I wasn't nominate LOL )....that said, I think you could play if you couch it as you have - an invitation from a blog-friend who thinks you are an awesome preacher (well, you are)....and that, while you wouldn't use the exact same language, you are honored....(or something like that, you know, a tip of the hat to your parishioners, sensitive to your role as pastor - which is appropriate - but also staying cool with the shift in contemporary ease of language, etc.) (if that makes any sense)...

Yeah, I think I agree with mompriest. I don't say kickass either--but it's not like you saidit you got an award that said it. :-) LOL!

Diane, maybe you can compromise by displaying it in a daily post that will disappear (and where you can include an explanation such as mompriest suggests), but not display it permanently in your sidebar.

Just a thought.

I agree with you! It's flattering, and yet...I'm not so happy about saying it...not that I haven't used worse, in my car, by myself, with the windows up...

p.s. - thanks for your thoughtful comment on my post on religion. I really appreciate what you said.

Speaking as your anti-clerical blog friend, I would not mind if you posted the award were you my pastor, but I'd hesitate to advise you further than that. What do I know? I'm anti-clerical. ;o)

Mimi, I appreciate your anti-clerical opinion. May your number increase.

It is an appropriate award for a pastor! Ruth gave me an award too and I have yet to follow up, I am so behind!

You are very nice Diane and so kind - I remember when we discussed saying that something sucks and that you can't say that from the pulpit. Then my pastor did, although it was during a class and not during a service.

Thanks for being friends with such a potty mouth like me!!!

And post that award!Go kick some... rhymes with bass!

I'm not part of your congregation, but I wouldn't be offended.

Wow. I guess I hadn't realized just how far gone I am! It would never have occurred to me to worry about something like that.

I guess people are offended by such, but anyone who has a television or a radio ought to be immune to offense by now (not that that's necessarily a good thing...).

"Approopriate for a pastor..." What in the Hell does that mean? Are pastors called to be more holy than the rest? I don't think so. That really is a very clericalistic question, and it pisses me off a lot more than if you'd just said ass. I don't care if you say ass. I say it all the time. But(t), then I would. Pun intended. Laughing my ass/butt off over that.

If you aren't comfortable saying it, then don't. If you are, then do. This seems like a good opportunity to helop some members of your congregation learn the fine art of just getting over it.

Of course, I am just slightly more anti-clerical than Mimi.

And I think you kick ass too.

Tell that to the elderly lady in Dear Friend's congo, who was "disturbed" about how young families in the parish might take the news that he and I had gone on vacation together...

(I started to type "without benefit of clergy," but then it hit me... ;-)

Cheers,
