Shameless Self-Promotion

I'm really tired this evening. I had the matins service at 8:00 this morning, and preached at 12:15, 5:30 and 7:00 for the Wednesday Lenten services. After preaching on Sunday as well, tonight I feel a little preached-out.

However, this evening after the service a member of our congregation approached me. They used to be Missouri Synod Lutherans. They had family visiting this last Sunday. They are still Missouri Synod Lutherans. This man explained that his brother still has problems getting used to a woman pastor.

But you know, he said, She had a really good sermon.

He asked for a copy.

I know, it doesn't quite seem right to be proud. This being Lent and all.

P.S. drawing saved from a bulletin doodled on by a young person in our congregation.

Wow.
Our interim pastor's wife is also a pastor, and is head of staff at a church across town. Her husband says that people who still have doubts about women being pastors forget all that "once she's been in the emergency room with them".

Or, perhaps, once they've heard her preach a really good sermon.

SO this is a good thing, right?

Diane- there is a great difference between pride and what you describe here.

What you describe here - and rather beautifully so I might add - is how you glorify God in your good works.

And the doodle- loving that one!!

Fran -- I framed the doodle, and usually keep it on my desk.

oh diane... relax. relax. relax. put your feet up, grab up a cup of tea... i know it's hard but carve out a little space for YOU each day. you need it... before that fine holy rush of holy week is upon us. i recommend peppermint tea for upset tummies; chamomille for muscle relaxation; and sleepytime tea for... well not before preaching!

Sounds like it was a good night and that your proclamation was heard loud and clear. I love the doodle!

Well, I know it was a hard day but getting a MO Synod Lutheran to come 'round... that's pretty good work! Good on you!

Personally, I think pride gets a bad rap, at least the kind I think you're discussing here. Be proud. Be happy.

Peace to you.

Isn't it strange/funny how honest some people will be? Why not just ask for a copy of the sermon???

Good for you.

I attended an LCMS service today in a nursing home. It was an odd combination of TV evangelist style preaching mixed with very traditional liturgical communion, all squeezed into 30 minutes, including the guy going around with the common cup (akkk, and double akkk because it was in a nursing home) because he had gotten there late. I don't like God talk done on fast forward.

Well, Diane, I don't know that you were proud, so much as pleased. I think it's OK to be pleased in Lent.

The doodle is brilliant! Framing it was the right thing to do.
