This morning we woke up to the sound of a dog whining and whining as if to say: "I want to go out and play in this RIGHT NOW." I wanted to wait until it was light enough to catch some pictures, or a short video of her frolicking. Such joie de vivre! So I put up with her whining as long as I could, and then let her out, quickly following her with my trusty digital camera.
However, she didn't run and frolick. She ran to one particular spot and started sniffing and pawing and licking. She picked up something and ran with it, something which at first looked like one of the big sticks she likes to carry around.
But it wasn't a stick. It was a dead rabbit.
I didn't think you would want pictures of that.
However, here is a picture of Scout looking not like a sociopathic killer, but instead like our best friend, comforter and household part-time entertainer. Here she is becoming one with the new rug in "her" room. She also obliged me by sleeping on the bed for awhile each night that my husband was gone, even though I think she likes her own bed better. For some reason, I'm willing to put up with the "sociopathic killer" part. I wonder why.

Because love is unconditional and this is her nature.
No brainer.
It's the same with my daughter's cat. We have a theory though, that they only kill rabbits when the rabbit population is too high.
Scout...she is a sweet dog...not sociopathic at all...
well mochajava thinks my bed IS his bed..
dead bunnies... yucky. mochajava loves the snow... loves to run in it and dig his head in it...
what a sweet companion scout must be!
Good story; true to life. Love your dog. (and you)
Scout is a good dog. I'll bet it was the rabbit that was sociopathic......
Oh that Scout. A rabbit is just something to go after instinctively... like a rug, when you are tired and a dog.
Love the thought of her deigning to sleep on your bed!!
Well, my grandmother would have said, "That's nature"...
Scout is a good doggie.
Wasn't the rabbit already dead from the cold? For all I know, Scout could have been trying to rescue the little darling. At least that's what I've decided to believe.
Darling photo of her on the rug, btw. How I wish I could meet her! She really is a sweetheart.
yep ... what they said!
I had to laugh out loud at this. We don't live where there are many wild animals, but we do have squirrels. And a rambunctious Lab mix.

I was appalled. This is not something we expect to see on our deck. *The puppy has much calmed down over the past year.* Thankfully.
I enjoy your blog.
