Thought for the Day

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

-M. Williamson

Thanks to The Muser for reminding me of these wonderful words

And from the Steeles, this reminder:

I love that quote - it is so true.

It's a great quote, but it was written by Marianne Williamson. There's a long Internet tradition of attributing it incorrectly to Nelson Mandela! But it's Williamson.

It's a good quote, whoever said it. I know I fear my strength often.

I agree with ruth -- love that quote (no matter who wrote it!) :)

I heard it attributed to Mandela, and "The Muser" had it attributed to W.E.B dubois

Actually, I like The Steele's version of This Little Light too

I think Songbird corrected me, too, when I used it. That quote needs to keep popping up for me to get re-awakened to its message. Thanks for posting it, Diane.

That's a great quote!

It reminds me of C.S. Lewis' "The Great Divorce".

I hate to be the correcting person, but it's such a great quotation, I want Marianne Williamson to get her props!!

Diane, I like the quote, too. I'm guilty. I often wonder why on earth anyone would read my blog. I should think, "Why not? I'm a child of God." Thanks for the musical accompaniment.

I haven't been over here for a while. I'm trying to spend less time on the computer, but I haven't managed that, while still not visiting my friends. I can't explain it.
